Liquid Football Falls To Defending Champions

RIVERVIEW, MI - Inter Detroit (2-0-0) defeated Liquid Football (1-1-0) 3-1 Friday night at Gabriel Richard High School.

Defending champions Inter Detroit hosted expansion team Liquid Football in their home opener. From the early goings, Inter dominated possession. It was a physical game. Yellow cards were shown to numerous players throughout the match.

Inter Detroit got on the board first. In the 23rd minute, a well-placed through ball sliced through the Liquid Football defense, and Mardig Alajajian finished it to make it 1-0.

A few moments later, Liquid Football lost the ball in a dangerous position. Edwin Gomez-Ruiz ran onto a perfectly placed through ball and slotted it into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Just before halftime, An Inter cross from Zach Townsend deflected off Ali Alhalmi and floated as if it was in slow motion into the top corner for an own goal. 3-0 Inter.

By the end of the first half, Inter had dominated possession, created more chances, and outshot Liquid Football.

At the start of the second half, Liquid Football looked like a completely different team. One reason was the halftime subs, Benedek “Beni” Tanyi, Xavier Walser, and Wail Algahim. Tanyi and George Chomakov took control of the midfield. Liquid Football created more chances and shut down Inter Detroit's attack.

Liquid Football pulled one back in the 73rd minute. Algahim whipped in a cross to the back post that found Walser, who headed it into the back of the net to make it 3-1 with 17 minutes left to play.

The play was end-to-end after the goal. Both teams had their chances, but mostly it was Liquid Football asking the questions late in the second half. Liquid Football had the momentum but left it too late. Despite the late push, the final score was 3-1 Inter Detroit.

Liquid Football’s next match is against Detroit Union at Waterford Mott High School. Kick-off is at 6:45.
